UVA Accessibility Initiative Phase One

ACCESS ANALYTICS DEPLOYMENT

Good morning,

We are pleased to share that Phase One of our University-wide initiative that is part of President Sullivan’s Executive Committee on Digital Access is progressing well. In this effort, we continue to work with Level Access, our external partner and expert in the accessibility space, to develop a better understanding of our digital footprint and what steps we can take to ensure equal access to our electronic communications in their various forms to all individuals, including those with disabilities.

The next step in our work involves deploying Access Analytics, Level Access’s accessibility analytics tool. Access Analytics provides automatic discovery and risk profiling of site pages by capturing page traffic, accessibility compliance issues, and use of Assistive Technology devices. Access Analytics is deployed by placing a JavaScript resource header within a website or application. The added JavaScript code has no impact on page appearance or load time. The analytics collected will inform and prioritize any University remediation efforts after an audit of all properties in scope for this initiative is completed by Level Access. When complete, these results will be made available to your units and guidance will be offered with respect to remediation efforts and next steps in this multi-year initiative.

As individuals who have been identified by our team to manage this process, we ask that you take the following actions:

  1. Identify a member of your team that has access to your site source code and who has permission to deploy the JavaScript.
  2. Review the attached document that includes an overview of Access Analytics, deployment instructions, and the University-specific JavaScript. Please read this information and deploy the script no later than October 312017Please note that actual deployment is not time-intensive and should be able to be completed within 15-30 minutes.
  3. If you have questions specifically related to Access Analytics and its deployment, our partners at Level Access will be hosting two virtual Q&A sessions. To register, click on a link below.
    1. Session 1:  October 19, 2017, 10:00AM-11:00AM – Register here.
    2. Session 2:  October 25, 2017, 11:30AM-12:30PM – Register here.
  4. Should you require additional interim support, please reach out to the following resources.
    1. Technical support related to the script deployment: Contact Level Access at ampsupport@LevelAccess.com. Include your first name, last name, phone number, and department/school. Please use “UVA Access Analytics Deployment” in the subject line of your email.
    2. All other questions, including the scope of this initiative: Contact the Office for Equal Opportunity and Civil Rights (EOCR) at uvaeocr@virginia.edu. The Executive Committee is co-chaired by EOCR’s Associate Vice President, Catherine Spear, and the University’s ADA Coordinator, Melvin Mallory. Please use “Digital Access Program” in the subject line of your email.
  5. Once you have deployed the script on your sites, please use this Excel template to list all the URLs to which the script was deployed, save the spreadsheet, and email it to uva@levelaccess.com . Please use “UVA Access Analytics Deployment” in the subject line of your email and reference your department/School in the body of the email.
